(14 votes, average: 3.64 out of 5) Loading ...Almost everybody know that Hutch is now Vodafone. This makes a change in procedure of activating GPRS on Vodafone mobile. Following is the procedure to activate Vodafone GPRS:
- Send sms ACT VL to 111.
- GPRS will be activated in 24 hours.
- After GPRS gets activate, you need to get settings.
- For settings sms VL <Phone Model> to 56789, Ex: VL N2626 for Nokia 2626
- You will receive MMS & GPRS settings back to back.
- Save both the settings & get connected!
I am not sure of charges for this service. Vodafone charges are varying from pre-paid & post paid. My friend is using pre-paid & there is no monthly charges for him & only paying for tranfers (10 paisa/10kb). I activated same thing on my post-paid connection & Vodafone charging me Rs.49/Month. For this monthly charge I will get
- 500 mb of transfer (I am not sure, I asked thrice when customer care girls told this). 5pais/10kb after that.
- 30 MMS, 3rs/mms after that.
So make sure of charges before activating this service.

can someone tell me the manual settings for vodafone ? bcos i am using HTC Touch
For GOD’s sake, anyone don’t ever use Vodafone GPRS and lose more than 2000 bucks within 24 hours…it’s a silly service from Vodafone (previously Hutch) just per 10kb = 10p. Instead for GPRS in mobile, Airtel is better than any other else…with just 5 bucks a day u can access 24hrs continuously.

I used both Airtel & Vodafone GPRS services.
Both are good & vodafone is bit faster!
Vodafone offers 5MB of free transfer & 25 MMS for monthly rent Rs.49.
5MB is OK for mobile browsing.
Personally I have good experience with Vodafone
I have a GPRS post paid connecting from Vodafone, and am trying to get Gmail to work on it.
It downloads well, but never goes beyond the first screen. When I read up the Gmail mobile app site, it says that it needs a “direct” internet connection and would not work o WAP proxy.
The Vodafone GPRS settings come with WAP proxy settings. Anybody knows how to configure Vodafone service to point to direct internet connection?

I never heard of such an imaginary application which opens every website with normal connection.

I cant login into any chat services(yahoo, msn, gtalk etc etc etc) in softwares like Agile Messenger, or IM+ , or Slick etc. I get socket errors or some errors like this depending on the software i use..

Steps are really simple.Just call Vodafone @ 111 & ask them to enable GPRS(Please tell them ur mobile handset) coz gprs settings are different for different handsets.
They will accordingly send the gprs settings to you via SMS.
Additionaly you need to do below mentioned settings in ur HTC TOUCH connections
Access Point Settings:
Proxy: Enabled
Proxy Address: 10.10.1.100
Proxy Port: 9401

Here is the step by step process to start gprs on HTC touch
1.Call vodafone at 111 & ask them to enable gprs tell them, u r using HTC touch phone.
2.After enabling GPRS they will ask you to send an SMS as “VL to 52586″.
3.After u send this SMS u will receive a sms saying gprs settings has been send to ur mobile.
4.Now the real stuff comes, goto settings/connections/network wizard & select the country & service provider e.g India & Hutch/Vodafone & follow the instructions.
5.After doing the configuration it will ask to restart ur phone.
6.After restart goto settings/connections/connections/Advanced Tab/Select Network button
from the drop down select Hutch WAP Settings & apply.
7.Now goto Tasks tab in connections.
here u’ll see Hutch WAP Settings
Click edit my proxy server & click Advanced button.
8.here u’ll see diff proxy type & there server ip except for http which u need to add.
9.Click on HTTP & provide ip as 10.10.1.100 & port as 9401 Save the changes & u are done.
10.Open IE & njoy ur surfing……. :)))))))))))))

airtel by far the best in gprs internet providing various plans at various places will cost u around 10/- average per day for unlimited access 24/7,no limit for downloading which is good because,every time u visit a website u actually download that page,and if the page is full of pictures it is actually downloaded,and u will be charged for that,10p/10kb(as it is in vodafone or idea etc) means about 10 rupees for 1 mb download if u are using a feature rich full html or xhtml browser as many of the smartphones of present generation support,even for htc there are many plans available and u can get data card too for various other devices,now most of the smartphones come with lots of applications that requires internet connection,so it fair in my opinion for an unlimited plan for all such smartphone users
for activating gprs in TN circle just send sms “GPRS” to 56789 for 24 hrs pack,in which u will get 24 hrs unlimited gprs for 20/-,amount will be deducted from ur account,
alternatively u can send “GPRS7″ to 56789 for 7 days pack for 75/- u can access internet for 24/7 in that week with no download limited.
or if u want to go for monthly unlimited plan recharge for 375/- (denomination could be different for different places,but its knows as gprs recharge) gives u validity of 30 days to download and upload any amount.
also airtel has EDGE enabled network almost everywhere so u get faster browsing and download speed,and everything works even if u are on roaming almost anywhere in india,be it delhi,chennai,kerla,maharshtra,banglore or even MP and CG.
i m not a great fan of airtel,as its stupid service support,but if u know ur work around and u are on prepaid,thats fair service,until unless other network service provider comes up with competitive packages,i hope vodafone launches 3G in india soon and keep reasonable prices for it.

the options I have for “Connects from” and “Connects to” are the same. The options are the following: Secure WAP Network, WAP Network, Work, and The Internet.
I’ve also tried those settings but they do not work
Also, the primary DNS and 2nd DNS default to 0.0.0.0

I had same problem when using Airtel Online GPRS.
I changed somr settings which says “Allow Cookies” & “Allow connection through non secured connection”, not exactly, but something says like that. Try allowing these in your phone.

Required:
1. 6218 usb modem driver (MT6227 driver), u can download it from any driver site.
2. Connect ur mobile to pc, manually install the driver to access the com port.
3. Goto Control Panel>Phone & Modem Connection>Install standard 33600 bps modem.
4. Airtel GPRS MOBILE SETTINGS(Mobile Office).
a. Send Msg: GPRS to 56789 (For 1 day usage)
b. Send MSg: MO to 2567 (receives Confirmation Msg
that mobile office is activated on your mobile)
c. Set Home page http://www.google.com (in WAP browser settings)
d. Gateway: 202.56.231.117
e. Port: 9201
Note: now u can start browsing in ur mobile
5. modem settings: (PC)
a. Goto Phone & Modem Settings>Modems>standard 33600 bps modem>properties>advanced
b. Extra Initialization:
c. copy n paste the content within bracket into the extra initialization typing place {AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”airtelgprs.com”,”",0,0}
d. Now Network Connection > New connection wizard > Click Next > Connect to internet > setup my connection manually > Connect Using a diaup Modem Connection > ISP name(any) > Phone Number (*99***1#)

and there should be some option which says “Activate default for all applications”
Which makes that settings to be used by all applications on your phone.

Can some one please tell me the difference between the basic and advanced GPRS plans from vodafone? they say I can’t use my Nokia E61i as a modem to connect internet on my lap top if I get the basic GPRS (free activation along with 10p/10kb) as it is a WAP based program, but if I opt for advanced GPRS (199/- a month for 5p/10kb) then it is a WWW based program and in that I can use my handset as a modem. I am confused as to what is the difference? Please let me know asap.

Your question itself has half answer.
The basic GPRS connection allows you to browse internet only on your mobile. You can’t browse internet on desktop or laptop using this connection.
The second option allows you to browse internet on mobile as well as on your desktop or laptop.
I’m using a Windowns mobile and I recently activated GPRS in Aircel, Chennai. Could someone please tell me the manual setting for Aircel, Chennai

I am using HTC and i used this configurations. Just check out whether its useful for you….
Start-> Settings-> Connections-> Manage Existing Connections
You Can select a new or edit the pre-existing one.
Enter The name for the connection as you like
Select the modem as Cellular line (GPRS)
Give the accesspoint name as portalnmms
Leave the username, password and domain blank.
Click on advanced and give the IP as 10.10.1.100
leave the DNS Address and click ok
and select finish.
now close the window and come back to the connections and click on edit my proxy
put a tick mark on both the check box and and give the proxy server name as 10.10.1.100 and then click on Advanced
now select HTTp and enter the server address as 10.10.1.100 and give the port number as 9401 and click ok.
Restart the phone and browse the internet.
Now for recieving the mms
Start-> Messaging-> Inbox-> Select MMS-> Menu->Tools->Options
Select the exixting one to edit or create a new account.
Leave the preferences page and move on to the servers. Select the existing one to edit or create a new one.
Server Name: mms
gateway:10.10.1.100
port number 9401
server address: http://mms1.live.vodafone.in/mms/
connect via: the network which you have mentioned.
You can set the sending size limitation.
WAP version can be 2.0
Restart the phone and browse the internet.

I am using BSNL braodband and its connected through the ethernet connection.
I am using either bluetooth and USB connection to connect the HTC PDA to the laptop. I want to share the internet connection to PDA also.
I heard that there is an option to bridge the broadband connection and the usb connection to the PDA so that the internet will be shared in to the PDA.
Any Idea on this?

i’m facing a problem when using IM’s like Fring, Nimbuzz or IM+. they work on Wi-Fi. But when using GPRS. it given an error.
Nimbuzz connects thru HTTP but fails on socket connection.
does sm know how to solve this issue.

Vodafone has a serious issue…
On activation of “Vodafone Live” it does not enable ports except port 80. Which limits u to connect thru applications which uses ports.

may be you have to avtivate Vodafone Connect to get other applications working. Vodafone Connect is charged Rs.150/month & 5 paisa/10kb tranfer rate.

I am unable to check my email account from my phone (Sony Ericsson K530i, PREPAID). I do not need to browse, just need to check my gmail account, but neither works.
I called 111 was instructed to send VL to 52586 and then ACT VL to 144. I received this confirmation “Vodafone Live Service has been activated on your phone. Enjoy the new world of entertainment and information on Vodafone Live!”.
I then chose VDF Mobile Connect in Internet Settings.
BUT, I still get this error message “Connection Failure.Check settings.If problem persists, contact your operator”

Its very simple
Cost 199 / month surfing 5p / 10kb
To activate send ACT VMC199 to 111
( here 199 is the monthly cost if u want other plans like say 499 per month then send ACT VMC499)
it takes 48 hrs to act
Send WWW to 111 and it will send your settings for your mobile. Once you get reply for setting just select save from options and it will automatically conf setting in ur mobile
Thats it u can now start surfing.

Thanks a ton to all the posters of this thread , i could finally configure my HTC with vodafone live. I had made many calls to the customer care and also visited their vodafone centers but have not been able to find a solution …… but here i found a step by step guide ….. thanks to u all once again.

Thank you so much for explaining the Vodafone GPRS settings for HTC Touch. It finally worked. I cant believe how bad Vodafone customer support is. They absolutely have no clue about GPRS, settings etc. The probably are just reading from a manual or something and cant say anything beyond what they have in front of them. Thanks once again AJ for explaining the settings so well.

This is really weird.. I am using Apple iPhone i sent them VL Apple iphone as sms to 56789 they charged me 3rs for the sms and also a reply came as keyword did not match and i need to send some other desired keyword.. what shit is this ?? Vodafone s**king nowadays 3rs is gone

i have a nokia 8800 sapphire arte, the apps on the phone cant access the net, i can get to vodafone live no problem, but gmail cant access it says…”check access point”
now i tried to set up an access point like people suggested manually but there is no option in the phone where i can set up the proxy and stuff all i can do is name the access point and create it…..

Here are the settings…
To set up GPRS
a) Go to Menu > Connectivity > Data Communication > Data Accounts
b) Now choose New Account and select Account Type as GPRS data
c) Enter New Account as Vodafone live
d) Then fill up the fields below:
APN: portalnmms
Username: ______
Password: ______
e) Click on Save
Once you´re done, go back to Connectivity and:
a) Select Internet Settings and go to Internet Profiles
b) Select New Profile and enter name: Vodafone live
c) Connect using Vodafone live
d) Save the settings and return to Internet Profiles
e) Now under Vodafone live, select more and go to Settings
f) Now enter the following details:
Connect using: Vodafone live
Internet Mode: http
Use proxy: Yes
IP address: 10.10.1.100
Port No.: 9401
Username: _____
Password :_____
g) Once you have entered all the details, click on Save
h) Now go to advance settings from the more options again
i) Select Change Homepage option and enter the following details:
Name: Vodafone live
Address: http://live.vodafone.in
j) Now click on Save.
k) Go back to Internet Profiles and select Vodafone live
To set up MMS
To manually set up MMS on your phone, follow these simple steps:
a) Go to Menu > Connectivity > Data Communication > Data Accounts

i) Now return back to Picture Messages menu
j) Enter the Message Server Address: http://mms1.live.vodafone.in/mms/
