I convinced my mom to shop for grocery online this month. Though she was very sceptical because of previous bad experiences in online shopping in general. I made her sit aside me and hit bigbasket.com. I started adding items one after the other as she went on reading out her list. It took about an hour and a half since my mom started exploring other stuff on the website apart from list she had. As far as discounts are concerned, it was quite inline with offline grocery shops/supermarkets. Our order value was around Rs.3.4k & we got the discount of around Rs.300. I did search for coupons & failed to find anything there, discounts mentioned on those coupon sites were already visible in my cart (which is part of that Rs.300).
I ordered on Dec 7th evening. In the checkout process they ask you to pick a delivery slot & I picked the earliest available one, which was Dec 8th 10 AM to 12.30PM. I got a confirmation SMS with a delivery PIN! Next day morning I got a call from BigBasket saying there’s a delay in delivery & it would be done by around 12.45. Then at around 12 the delivery guy called for address confirmation & so I was hoping to get it delivered before 1Pm since I had plans to go out for lunch. But no sign of delivery even when the clock touched 1. I again got a call from BigBasket saying there’s been a problem with their delivery vehicle & order will be delivered before 6.30.
At around 6.30 I finally received my order and everything was intact. Delivery guy asked me for the PIN & I quickly read my SMS to tell him that. It seemed like a genuine case of vehicle failure & I hope it doesn’t happen again. Overall the experience was pretty good if I ignore the little delay in delivery. Customer support was proactive & kept calling me with status, otherwise I would have ended up at home waiting for delivery all day long.
BigBasket currently operates in Bangalore, Hyderabad & Mumbai. Apart from grocery, they also sell vegetables, dairy products and lot of other everyday home needs.
