Teewe is a Chromecast like HDMI dongle made by an Indian company. While it is Chromecast like, there are many differences which I try to point out in this post.
To start with, I have a 32 inch LED TV in living room with a Chromecast plugged in to it (TataSky on another port). Chromecast is majorly used by my parents to watch old songs streaming through YouTube. There were few times my dad came to me asking whether he can cast a video he shot & I simply said “No”. I did that since I had to take him through the process of installing another app (like Allcast) and teach him how to use it. Eventually he believed me and never asked again. As far my usage is concerned, it’s majorly Plex (because of Ogle), YouTube, Airtel Wynk & Google Play Music.
When I got Teewe, I replaced the Chromecast in living room with it. My parents understood the usage fairly quickly & started using it. It was much better than Chromecast for them since they could just stream anything residing on their phone. Especially photos and videos of my year old nephew sent to them by my sister through WhatsApp. Teewe is a great device for such target audience who consume mostly offline content & online content limited to YouTube. Though it does support streaming from browser.
As long as me giving up Chromecast for Teewe, it just can’t happen. Most of my usage is on third party apps which has Chromecast integration. Chromecast can jump into the shoes of Teewe using additional third party apps like AllCast, but for Teewe to get third part app support is a big task. Though I must say that Teewe has much smoother experience for offline content than Chromecast with third party app.
Teewe is a great device which is more customised to typical Indian consumers who have content downloaded on Phone to consume later. It’s extremely easy to use since all you need to do is install one app & stream whatever you want from there. They recently even launched Chrome plugin to cast streaming content to your Teewe. To sum it up, only downside of Teewe I can think of is third party app support. How important that is to you is only you can decide.
