Airtel today announced “Infinity Plans” for 4G which are semi-unlimited plans. Basically one will get unlimited data for the services of Airtel’s choice, like Wynk Music, Wynk Movies etc & rest will be counted against limited data as per plan.
Wynk Movies is a new service which got launched today with content from Eros Now, Hooq, Sony LIV. Since these services are part of Wynk Movies, data will be considered unlimited for these services. This will severely impact other service providers or startup like Ogle since they will be at disadvantage for not partnering with Airtel.
On the Wynk Movies app it does say “data charges extra” but it’s made carrier agnostic by design. So if you are using it from a different carrier you will be charged for data. But if you are on “Infinity Plan”, you wont be charged as shown in screenshot.
Airtel just doesn’t seem to like the idea of net neutrality and continues to break it in bigger ways!
Update: Airtel has issued clarification that only subscription charges to these services will be waived off and data will be charged.

But this is greatly misleading. The screenshot Airtel has posted with tiny disclaimer comes at the end of sign-up process. You will have to go through these steps before you see it:
Now this is a grey area since they are waiving off subscription charges for services of their choice. It is still favoring one service over other, this is no clear violation, but not clean either!
