One thing that bothers me most. People who are going on commenting/asking for settings, please try to understand that the same has been provided above in the post as well as in the reply. It only gives an idea as to what your intelligence level is. If you are not going to READ the already mentioned settings, what is the use of typing please give me settings etc when it is guaranteed that you are not going to read it anyway! Thanks is appreciated, but re-questioning something that has already been answered to the core is a pain in the @r$e!

Because of people being so lazy as to not use Google for what it is, or read the manuals, sites, provided settings already mentioned in umpteen number of places, or using something called the find function on a web page, (Ctrl+F and type the text you want to see in case of so called big forum posts) some people actually take the time and mention the same to save the web world of some torture, but if you still want to be a dumb ass and continue doing the same, trust me, you really can’t receive any help other than piss someone off and preventing them from helping you!

Okay just to mention a few updates. Now you can receive the settings on China Mobile too if you type VL and send to 52586. BUT FIRST see to it that your number first has Vodafone Live Activated on it(if you are a Vodafone user that is) the same is mentioned on Vodafone site itself, just select the region you are from and follow the settings:
    http://www.vodafone.in/_layouts/redirecttourl.aspx?surl=existingusers/vodafonelive/pages/subscribe_n_settings
And well just in case you miss it, why Vodafone has Chennai separate from Tamil Nadu beats me(Tamil Nadu except Chennai) WTF?!, Isn’t Chennai supposed to be like the capital of Tamil Nadu?!! duh!
look at another sentence and be the judge, Monthly rental is not applicable for customers in Dehi & NCR and Maharashtra and Goa (except Mumbai) circles (there again the except Mumbai/Maharashtra argument!)

NOTE: Manual settings are available according to phone on the Vodafone site itself (Just see to it that you wear on your glasses or use the Zoom in view(Ctrl ++) because the font size is pretty small and can give you a freakin’ migraine headache) and IF YOUR PHONE IS NOT MENTIONED just use the same settings and apply as and when necessary on your phone menus/sub-menus settings, advisable to look for the words: Settings, Phone Settings, Network Settings, also look under Internet Settings and Message Settings just in case!

Some dudes mentioned not receiving the settings that is because YOU HAVE NOT ACTIVATED Vodafone live in the first place! It’s like you asking do you need to wear underwear after putting on your pants?! Dude/Dudette if you’re not Superman/Wonderwoman I suggest you put on the underwear first as in Activate then try settings!

Alternately, switch off your phone, remove your sim card and re-insert after maybe a few minutes’ gap to check if it automatically asks to install the WAP/MMS settings and then once you have installed the received settings give the phone a restart just to be on the safe side and then try out whatever you want to. Note some applications are not supported on phones so don’t try wasting your time.
Eg. Older China phones do not support java applications like Opera Mini etc.
For that matter even Samsung B5722(Duo) does not support Opera Mini!

Also, it would not make sense in you trying some Android application on a non-Android phone and then saying it does not work, if you don’t know the difference between GPS/A-GPS – GPRS, Java-Android, 2G-3G, GPRS-WiFi, camera with flash, without flash, megapixels etc all mean differences.

I suggest you first educate yourself on the same before you purchase your phone, don’t simply buy phones that you heard somewhere is the best when you don’t know Jack’s ass about using it or the features are not available in India. For example BSNL/other operators will claim 3G and all, but video calling will work only where 3G tower is available. But don’t expect it to be advertised or mentioned anywhere. Just use this approach in life, think what would happen if you buy a car before you learn to drive and apply that to your real world experiences like you may not know to ride a bike itself properly, but you would want to drive a Ferrari, just think of the consequences of that!!! like trying to run before you can walk. So don’t give a damn about others’ opinions, make an effort to understand the difference what YOU Know and Don’t Know and do what is best suited for you and what you are comfortable with. No shame in that.

Also there is a difference between what type of connection protocol you use for facilitating mail/IM application support Vodafone Live/Vodafone Mail. There is a separate section for activating the same and the charges are mentioned on site as preferred:
    http://www.vodafone.in/vas/mailmessaging/pages/vodafonemail.aspx
Also it is best to stick to intensive internet stuff on your computer because you cannot get that much speeds or a good browsing experience on your mobile phone and the data charges are pretty exploiting in the case of mobile service providers, well not that it is a much better scenario on the Internet Broadband side, but at least you can do what u intend to do in a more comfortable manner rather than wonder if certain things would work where you are at the time of attempting to do something.

One unfortunate thing though is I cannot check the settings for my China mobile as it has indeed gone into Emergency Mode(probably must be invalid IMEI numbers or something coz its a pretty old phone) for both the sims and at present is dead as in the main feature of the phone calling is not there! So now it’s a music player in case of power cuts (R.I.P.)

Sorry again for the long post, but I couldn’t help it at least hope this post removes all the what are the settings questions and is of help to someone who knows how to read patiently for one before blurting out a blatant How to!!!

www. as I mentioned is the Vodafone Connect system that allows your phone to be used a computer modem and also enable web content on your mobile. http:// just allows to browse on your wap enabled phone without the advanced options, only they are charged different. Vodafone Live for basic browsing and Vodafone Connect/Mail etc for mail/internet content.

  • Michael

Hi, most probably that is for wi-fi settings namely PPPOE etc and not for WAP/GPRS where in your phone gives an error since the modem or network configuration is not setup for adding additional devices. Please contact your service provider regarding settings for the same or refer to your mobile manual for correct settings.

The settings might have to be changed according to the type of access you are using for the particular application, the phone might have certain applications configured by default via Wi-Fi settings whereas the phone will be having other settings as per GPRS/WAP hence the conflict in access causing the error. Kindly make the necessary changes in the settings and hope the error is rectified.
