BenQ RL2240HE has been around for a while now. Though I had a brief look at it in a gaming event, didn’t get a chance to try it hands on. It had my attention since it had a specific mode for Dota 2 which I play often.
RL2240HE comes with several standard picture modes (like Movie, Photo..etc) and also RTS 1 & RTS 2 modes which are specifically made for Starcraft 2 and Dota 2 respectively. So one can easily switch between picture modes depending on what they are doing. Apart from these it has Gamer 1, Gamer 2 & Gamer 3 mode which are user defined profiles one can edit as per their gaming needs.
Playing Dota 2:
Long wait to try Dota 2 on this monitor had come to an end & I was all geared up to see if my gaming skills see any improvements. I plugged it in and switched to RTS 2 mode which is meant for Dota 2. The difference was HUGE! Colors, Brightness, Contrast was all adjusted perfectly for great in-game visibility. Just for the record, I didn’t change any settings in Dota 2 client, just took out my monitor and plugged in the RL2240HE. My last hits were much better and also map awareness (We just forget about what’s happening on other lanes sometimes!). Overall Dota experience was great & I was feeling like a pro! (I even once typed on team chat in a pub game saying “we should form a team”).
Personally I had two problems with this monitor to use as a daily driver.
- It has only one HDMI port so whenever I wanted to watch TV from DTH box I had to manually switch cables on the back of monitor.
- It doesn’t come with standard audio ports, it just has one Headphone jack. This was important to me since I use HDMI on both PC & DTH and connect speakers to monitor. I connect my headphones to CPU audio ports and switch to them in windows sound settings when needed. Though this is not a big turn-off, one can just buy an adapter to fix it.
Overall it’s a great flicker free gaming monitor at this price tag.
