Internet through Vodafone mobile connect USB modem

This is similar to USB internet data card provided by Reliance & Tata Indicom on CDMA technology. But this is from Vodafone on GSM platform through EDGE technology . You have to insert a SIM card into this modem & connect it to your laptop or desktop to have internet access. Vodafone website has not specified anything about speed, but they claim “speed that?s three times faster than your wired dial-up connection”, anyway I don’t believe in that! In India it connects to Vodafone EDGE network, so you can have access to internet wherever Vodafone network exists. Vodafone says “Gives 3G Broadband speeds when you travel abroad” as 3G is not implemented in India.

Charges & Tariff:

Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem will cost you Rs.6,499. Aw! that’s too expensive, HCL Laptop is available for 13,990! There are two monthly plans:

Overall this service is too much expensive :( . But if you don’t worry to pay for enjoying mobility, then this is the better one to go for. I heard Tata Indicom & Reliance data cards are extremely slow even in Bangalore!

    u can use 3g high speed internet through 2g( unlimited downloading only in 274Rs)
    use 3g dongle( huwai, micromax) set the network at wcdma only.
    only u hav to bye special series no. through market
    downloading speed on idm varies 0-350KBps.

    For heavens sake, stop promoting with false promises. The maximum speed which i am getting on average in Chennai is 2kbps and that too in the heart of Chennai City. When there is less network congestion at 3:00 AM in the morning, the average speed would be 9kbps. The vodafone network deliberately disables streaming of video and voice content, they also make sure that rendering of images takes a lot of time.

    A best approach at the time of buying is to ask for the vodafone showroom guys to access youtube and to stream a video. By doing so you can judge the speed for yourself.

    Please go for this product if you want to waste Rs.7000.

    And once more thing before buying this device do make a visit to the showroom and ask them for a demo on Youtube videos. During the demo these guys deliberately disable Flash and other high data volume based web applications. They do it because their USB based modem on EDGE/GPRS cannot sustain such high data transfers. This product is even worse than a dial up. They will promise of speeds of 128Kbps and so on, but to download a 5MB mp3 song it will take more than 4 hours. Vodafone is ripping customers off with utterly irresponsible performance and service.

    VODAPHONE GPRS IS NOT WORKING SINCE 28/29 JULY IN MANIPUR, THEIR CUSTOMER CARE IS RESPONPONDED  BY COMPUTER VOICE RESPONCE SYSTEM, (IVR ) SO IN  NO WAY WE CAN TALK TO BPO PERSON. ONLY SMS WE CAN SENT NO QUERIES, ANSWERS IT DEPENDS ON LUCK.
    THE WORST PART IS THAT THEY STILL SENDING SMS /HAORDING ABOUT GPRS WHEN IT IS NOT FUNCTIONING, I TRIED TO CALL THEIR NE CIRCLE HEAD OFFICE NO ANSWER INSTEAD.

    ANOTHER COMPALIN IS ABOUT RELIANCE DATACARD, THEY GIVE US SIM ALONG WITH DATACARD , AFTER ACTIVATION WHEN I CONTACT THEIR CUSTOMER CARE THEY TOLD ME
    THAT THE SIM IS PREPAID BUT IN THE PACKAGE IT IS WRITTEN POST PAID IN WHITE COLOUR,
    THEN ABOUT RECHARGE I CALL MORE THAN 20 TIMES ABOUT NET PACK THE ANSWER IS THEIR SERVER IS DOWN, WE ARE UPGRADATION PLEASE CALL AFTER 2 HOURS STILL NOW IT IS ABOUT A MONTH STILL THE SAME REPLY. SO BE CAREFUL BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING, BECAUSE ONCE YOU PAY THE THE MONEY, WHETHER IT IS GOOD OR BAD YOU HAVE TO BEAR IT.
