Internet through Vodafone mobile connect USB modem

This is similar to USB internet data card provided by Reliance & Tata Indicom on CDMA technology. But this is from Vodafone on GSM platform through EDGE technology . You have to insert a SIM card into this modem & connect it to your laptop or desktop to have internet access. Vodafone website has not specified anything about speed, but they claim “speed that?s three times faster than your wired dial-up connection”, anyway I don’t believe in that! In India it connects to Vodafone EDGE network, so you can have access to internet wherever Vodafone network exists. Vodafone says “Gives 3G Broadband speeds when you travel abroad” as 3G is not implemented in India.

Charges & Tariff:

Vodafone Mobile Connect USB Modem will cost you Rs.6,499. Aw! that’s too expensive, HCL Laptop is available for 13,990! There are two monthly plans:

Monthly rental (Rs)	499	699
Free data	500MB	1GB
Usage charges	5p / 10KB	5p / 10KB

Overall this service is too much expensive . But if you don’t worry to pay for enjoying mobility, then this is the better one to go for. I heard Tata Indicom & Reliance data cards are extremely slow even in Bangalore!

I dont expect Vodafone to give anything better than the other two. Its GPRS sucks big time. Its effective datarate is slower than what is should be technically.

Yes, Vodafone is too costly. Better go for Airtel Mobile office GPRS connection on your mobile. It is also expensive but there is no data transfer limit…
Have’t used Reliance, but Tata Indicom sucks for sure…

i’m using vodafone mobile connect for some days now and i agree to the above users.
in mobile connect you dont have to have a usb data card, and use ur mobile as the modem insted(if only u have a supported mobile).wht you need to do is just connect ur lptp/dsktp with ur mobile and have the mobile acess the net.the mobile will act as a modem.
but the speed in doing so sucks big time, google.com almost takes 10 mins to open. but if u want mobility this is great as they have a good network backup.

in my opinion airtel is the best one compared to others. tata, reliance has got limited connectivity in remote areas, vodafone & similar gsm operators are not fully equipped to give good speed as good as airtel. airtel carry 1800 mhz and higher bandwidth tech. so it should be a wise choice, i wasted money on tata, vodafone & finally airtel worked out much better with initial cost.

last week i bought a tata indicom plug2surf by Rs-2499+150=2649,but it is very costly in data transfer.at 8am to 10pm-60p/min and 10pm 2 8am-30p/min.at first i used airtel mobile office with Rs-498/month…..it is better for large data…AND NOW I SUGGEST TO USE FOR Reliance Smart with Rs-303/month or Rs-39 for 3 days recharge with Rs-39 in between friday from 10am 2 10pm.Used net from saturday 00.00 to monday day 00.00…..so,now ‘SMART” IS BESTTTTTTTT.SPEED–115.4KBPS

I am currently accessing the net through PCMCIA slot using Tata Indicom SIM Card.

In the HP Pavilion laptop model there is no provision for PCMCIA Card.

Kindly let me know how to use my existing SIM Card to access the internet from HP Pavilion lap top.

nowadays Airtel is the best for surfing and downloading>>>>>>>>>>>if you want to use net vastly then you must use airtel.Rs-498/month or Rs-25/day(8.00am to nextday 8.00 am) OTHERWISE you can use USB MODEM Rs-898/month paying.

airtel is best they hav good cheap cable based unlimitted plans in cities 256 k . GPRSmobile office Unlim just increased rate from 250rs/mnt to 375 from july 08.
The differ is now MO supports Ymsngr. Need EDGE fone 4 audio clarity.

In every region you may not get that speed. For example in my circle Airtel is giving the best speed

Sir i am having a query related to wimax ,
that is how to connect wimax network through mobile simcard,

i am having t400 lenovo laptop in that already a wimax chip is there, and the slot for sim is given as per companys executive inform they me that i am able connect to wimax network after inserting the simcard in that slot, but after doing the said process i am unable to found the connectivity.

need a details regards wimax how to configure sim to connect wimax network.

@sachin – I guess you are mis-guided by people from which you bought Laptop. WiMax is entirely different service which cannot be accessed by putting a SIM card into slot. Have a look at http://www.techbangalore.com/r.....-bagalore/ to know more about WiMax

I have a palm treo 750 and got a new connection of Vodafone. I had Airtel earlier and Mails and browsing used to work great and now with Vodafone.. not able to do anything. They say Vodafone mobile connect is live for my # but for me it says “the page cannot be displayed or download because the connection was lost…..”

can any one let me know if i can slove this.

@Rupesh – Mr,Rupesh at first cheake your connection that it is “LIVE” or “MOBILE CONNECT” if it is LIVE then you can also surf the net by paying 10p/10kb…HOW…at first you install OPERA WEB BROWSER then go to direction
1.TOOL>PREFERENCE>ADVANCED>NETWORK>PROXY SERVER>mark-HTTP,HTTPS,FTP,GOPHER and PORT use 10.10.1.100 for first four…and use 1904 for only PORT(FOUR)
or it is MOBILE CONNECT then you can use
1.if your phone is nokia then use NOKIA pc suit/or any phone pc suit and use “www” as a access point(APN) OR
2.DIRECT DIAL-UP -*99***1#

I am using Reliance Smart GSM. I am getting the speed of about 210 kbps with EDGE. Montly rent is only Rs.303. I am from Kerala, I dont know about other circles.

Dude, for just 303 Rs Deepak must be getting unlimited data tranfer plan..

But if he goes with BSNL broadband and unlimited data plan in it, it will cost him Rs 750+tax ..

So, I would suggest Deepak to stick up with GPRS if that speed is fine with him

@Soumya – Just connect your phone to PC with the datacable provided, open Nokia PC Suite & click on “Connect to Internet”. Select “Hutch” from the list of service provider & click “Connect”

@Soumya – If you don’t select the service provider properly, it happens. Are you sure you selected Hutch from the list of providers?

@Soumya – Strange, It should work if you have active GPRS connection. Can you tell me exactly which plan you are subscribed to? I don’t know any power plan. Can you check the name of access point on your phone. Whether it says “Vodafone Mobile Connect” or “Vodafone Live” ?

Its hutch world..The plan is Rs.98 unlimited GPRS..I use my mobile for surfing using opera mini..But why am i not able to connect it to my pc,iv no idea!

@Soumya – Hutch World plan allows only to browse on phone. To connect to internet from PC via phone, you will need “Hutch Access” now called as “Vodafone Mobile Connect”. Talk to customer care & get it activated. You can also send “ACT VMC” to 111 for activation. Default plan will Rs.199/Month PLUS 5paise/10kb transfer charges.

Well,the thing is previously it showed vodafone live! In the list of access points..But i recently formatted the phone memory..N now it shows just 3 points..Hutch world,access,mms!
