Pay Airtel bill through SMS; Airtel intros mChek

Prashanth on September 18th, 2007

Now just send an sms to pay your mobile bill. It doesn’t matter where you are, doesn’t require any paper work to get activated. You need to register your credit card with Airtel by sending an sms. After registration you can pay your bill by sending a simple sms. Procedure to activate this service is given below:

  1. Send sms “MCHEK” to 121. You can also use MCHECK, MCHEQUE, MCHK, MCHQ.
  2. It will request you to create a four digit PIN, which will used for future transaction.
  3. Then an USSD session gets invoked & asks you to enter 4 digit PIN.
  4. Enter your credit card number, expiry date & CVV number as it requests on by one.
  5. Re-enter your 4 digit PIN.
  6. You are done! A welcome message appears including instruction for future transaction.

The procedure looks quite simple, but be sure that you are entering all details in Airtel. There is a chance that anyone else can implement same kind of procedure to steal you credit card details. Coming back to the post, the procedure to pay your bill after registrations is as follows:

  1. Sms “PAY AIRTEL <AMT>” to 121. Ex: PAY AIRTEL 500
  2. This will invoke an USSD session & ask you 4 digit PIN which you created while registration.
  3. A request will be sent to your bank & bank replies by approving or declining.
  4. If bank approve, you will get a confirmation receipt.

  1. Good post – one can also sign-up on the web at http://www.mchek.com.

On the comment on being sure to enter the information on Airtel, this is always the case because of the fact that USSD sessions are only generated in response to the customer’s SMS that is sent to 121.

    Cheers

  2. that’s a great service from you.

Call up airtel customer care and ask them to get the bills delivered to your mail id. After that you can pay them by using your credit card.

    @ deepak khuran:
You 2 may try the solution suggested to M Prakash

    @ SHAFI:
According to sources airtel have considered to introduce this service soon.

    @ Anitha Kariappa:
Debit card can be used for mChek applications, but you’ll need a gprs enabled mobile 2 use mChek application wherein you have such a option. I mean you cannot use that sms procedure with debit card or net banking account

    @ Deepak Rana:
Yes you can use mChek facility even from your prepaid Airtel connection. And this service comes absolutely free. According to security point of view I don’t think there would be any problem, even I am using mChek since its introduced without any problem :)

    @ MANPREET SINGH:
Complete procedure is mentioned in the post above :P .
Write back for any further doubts

    @ Riaz:

    @ G.Radhakrishnan:
For this you’ll have to download mChek application on your GPRS supported airtel mobile.

    @ Aamir:
Repeat the procedure again. May be it would solve your problem

    @ poonam:
Sorry.. This is something I don’t know about :(

    @ dana:
yes, but only if you have gprs supported mobile :)
